Tag sechs (Day 6): Munich
“But that's the glory of foreign travel, . . . I can't think of anything that excites a greater sense of childlike wonder than to be in a country where you are ignorant of almost everything. Suddenly you are five years old again. You can't read anything, you have only the most rudimentary sense of how things work, you can't even reliably cross a street without endangering your life. Your whole existence becomes a series of interesting guesses.” -- Bill Bryson, Neither Here Nor There: Travels in Europe
K: Always on time, we met the group and boarded Tony’s bus to head to Munich. We appreciated the chance to rest our sore muscles and plan the next adventures. Elizabeth had already filled up her 16-gigabyte camera memory and had an issue with another card, so we were on a mission, at our lunch stop, to find more memory. Our noon stop was a beautiful lakeside town of Lindau, on the border between Switzerland and Austria. Another brilliant, sunny day, so people were enjoying sitting outside at the cafes. Margaret pointed us to a camera shop (success!) and Elizabeth’s camera was back in business. Lunch was a selection of take-away bread and pastries, which we enjoyed sitting at the edge of the sparkling lake, taking in the scenery and the sunshine. Back on the bus, we got serious about our plans for Munich. Once again, our hotel, Blauer Bock, was dead center of the city, so we set out on foot to the city center, Marienplatz, to view the Glockenspiel and take in the atmosphere. In keeping with our theme of eating local specialties, we ordered wiener schnitzel and sauerkraut for dinner.

E: Marienplatz was buzzing with energy, and the area was very clean. Bought a cute handmade bracelet from a street vendor there.
